The Boudoir Lighting DVD arrives!

By PersonalNo Comments

Check out this never-before-seen video from earlier this year, showing our excitement we received our first shipment of THE LIGHTING DVD!!!!!

In case you didn’t hear, we are running a Memorial Day Sale on the Lighting DVD! Go on over to the Boudoir Shop to check out the deal and buy the DVD! On the Lighting & Shooting DVD, we walk you through 4 different lighting set-ups, showing our easy recipes for studio lights. If you are a boudoir photographer who wants to catapult your business to the next level, we highly recommend thinking about adding studio lights to your repertoire. Studio lighting will give your images a cinematic look, and will help you stand out above your competition (especially if all of your competitors are only shooting in natural light!) The purchase of the DVD also includes a lighting recipe booklet, so that you can reference it during your boudoir shoots.

How cute is Tenley?

By Boudoir Photo Shoots, PersonalNo Comments

We’ve had the wonderful pleasure of working with Tenley Molzahn a few times now. She’s always SO much fun to work with, and of course she’s gorgeous, so the images are gorgeous! We still have a few more weeks before we’ll launch our “Believe in Beauty” video and photo extravaganza… but this post is a little teaser of Tenley’s newest project that she’s working on. This is one talented lady, and she has big things ahead of her. We’re excited that she chose US to take some photos for her new project! Here are just a few of our favorites…

STYLING: Tenley is wearing the most comfy, cute sheepskin boots… by WHOOGA! Go get yourself a pair right now! (She’s wearing the “classic tall” style, in the “Sand” color)… I have to say, living in the Pacific Northwest, I live in these boots. Literally. If it’s a cloudy day here, I never take them off. πŸ™‚ Her sweatshirt & shorts are both from Shop Moderne, and BTW, I think I HAVE to have that heart sweatshirt. I’m just sayin, it’s pretty darn adorable. (PS, There’s a great coupon code out there right now for Memorial Day! The code is “MEM35”). Thanks, everyone, for checkin in with our blog this week. I’m happy to say that this has been a ‘perfect week’ for the Boudoir Divas, ie, we have posted a new blog post EVERY day this week so far. Now be sure to check in Saturday and Sunday – there just might be more fun things in store for you this weekend.

HAIR & MAKEUP: by the fabulous, amazing, Miss Peggy Rogers!

Have a great weekend, everyone! xoxo, Kimberlee

Dreaming

By Personal3 Comments

The project I’m working on today… gosh, the ‘dreamer’ part of me is freaking out with excitement – while the other ‘feet on the ground’ part of me is saying ‘don’t get your hopes up!’ Which side should I listen to!?

“To accomplish great things, we must not only act but also dream, not only plan, but also believe!” β€” Anatole France

To all of the dreamers out there: combine your action with your dreams, and don’t let anyone tell you you CAN’T or WON’T be able to accomplish your dreams!

I’ll leave you on this Wednesday afternoon with a photo from our most recent studio group photo shoot… Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday! -K

Amazed! A lesson in ‘boldness.’

By Personal7 Comments

I am thrilled to be writing this post. Around the time that I wrote a blog post about my desire to care more about what God cares about, to be more bold, my hubs, Weston, was invited by our church, the Flood, to accompany the Pastors of our church to Haiti. There they were going to work with Children of the Nations in locating a great spot for a new, much needed clinic. The task was to get to know the different communities and figure out where the clinic would serve the best. The biggest challenge was generating the $100,000 that was needed to build/start the clinic. Weston was asked to do photo and video during the trip so that they could show our church the communities they wanted to help and motivate them to donate. He went with them and had the trip of a lifetime.

When they returned I was amazed by our Pastors boldness when they announced to our church that they felt God’s urging that we as a congregation could earn $100,000. I was even more amazed when he said he thought we could do it in 3 weeks! He said come Easter Sunday they would announce to the church if we made our goal. While we were working towards our goal, the only person who would know our progress would be the financial dude. Our church is about 1500 people, most college age. That is maybe big or small depending what your experience with churches are,or the city you are in,Β  to me it’s somewhat small. I was a little nervous that we might not be able to pull it off.

Every week leading up to the “big reveal” we saw more of Weston’s footage and heard another powerful story either from video or our Pastor Matt. On Easter Sunday we all watched a new “reveal” video in big anticipation to see if we reached our goal. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Even our friends who came to Easter Sunday with us and really have no emotional connection toΒ  our church cried like babies next to us. To say God moved in a huge way is an understatement. I would be honored if you watched the video below. And if you do please watch it to the very end. -M

My move…

By Personal17 Comments

I have been putting off this post for a LONG time. Mainly because I feel like my world has turned upside-down (in a good way)… and yet, how do you put into words the reason WHY you have purposely turned your world completely upside-down?

Marissa and I have always tried to be very honest and raw with you guys on this particular blog. Maybe because we feel like photographers out there understand us and know where we’re coming from… all of us are trying to find our way in this business – sometimes succeeding, sometimes screwing up, and yet always loving the fact that we have made this our profession, and we get to do something we LOVE every day! I know I’ve been pretty honest about my personal life in the past several years here too – for example – talking about my divorce… and then there was that official ‘announcement’ of dating “Price Eric” (as Marissa has nicknamed him). So it’s only fair that I continue sharing about my personal life, with all of my friends out here in internet world.

So, yes, I have made a decision to radically change my life this year. I moved to Washington state!!!!!!!!!!!! And the reason why? Well, I think this quote I heard recently is really the best way to explain it…

“When something is important to you, you move heaven and earth to make it happen.”

Last year, I reconnected with a friend from my college (Biola University). He and I had actually worked together at Red Robin, and so when we reconnected (yes, it was through Facebook), I really thought nothing of it. Fast-forward to a year and a half later. After going through a long year of long-distance dating, with 2-hour conversations on the phone every night quick weekend visits every 6 weeks… well, we decided that we had done the long-distance thing long enough. Prince Eric is the most amazing man, and he truly loves me for who I am. He is so incredibly supportive – he is so loving – and he is so much fun to be around. It was important to me to move things forward and to date each other in the context of ‘everyday/normal life’ – in the same city. This is so important to me, that yes, I moved heaven and earth to make it happen. And it is worth it! Although I miss being in the studio every day, I WILL still be traveling back & forth between WA & Socal, to still be involved in the Boudoir Divas empire. Nothing is changing with that. I will still be teaching workshops, I will be working every day from my new ‘office’ (aka my local coffee shop)… I may start doing 1-on-1 consultations for photogs here in the Pacific Northwest… and I will do whatever it takes to make this work. And, who knows? Maybe a new Seattle location is in the future for the Boudoir Divas…? The possibilities are endless! πŸ™‚

When all is said and done, I am just so excited for what has happened. After going through what I went through with my divorce and all of that incredible pain, I honestly didn’t know whether I would find love again. But God has done incredible things in my life, and in Eric’s life, to bring us to this point… and God has blessed us with the most amazing love. You guys, I can’t even describe how full my heart is right now. So there you have it. I’m living in Washington, commuting to San Diego, working from a coffee shop, and I’m in love. πŸ™‚ Thanks for reading my rambling thoughts! I’m hoping to post some more pics soon from my life here in WA, so stay tuned if you’d like to know more about my new home. xoxo, Kimberlee

Our “Muse”

By PersonalOne Comment

If you’ve been following us for a while, you will recognize this face. This is Miss Sarah, and we wanted to give her a little love – because, as we said on the Photovision DVD, she is our ‘muse!’ We love getting creative and trying out new lighting techniques, experimenting, and just having fun with photography. However, working with a client is usually NOT the time to experiment. So we regularly schedule shoots with models so that we can ‘play’! Our new “Believe in Beauty” shoots take this concept to the next level, and we are so excited about doing more of those types of shoots! Anyway… I was just looking through some photos recently, and couldn’t help but chuckle at all of the different ‘looks’ we have done with Sarah through the years. If you have come to a workshop, you’ve probably worked with this lovely lady (she’s a ‘regular’ at our workshops!) Thanks, Sarah, for working with us through the years. We’ve loved having you as our muse! πŸ™‚ Hugs, The Divas

Random Act of Kindness From Pops

This afternoon I was going through my emails and I came across a newsletter my Dad was sweet enough to forward me today. He must know me well or something πŸ™‚ I’d like to think that I am usually an optimist, but I have some serious whiny days. Only a Dad would be able to sense today was one of those days. Hee hee. Here’s the rejuvinating info that I think I already knew, but almost wish I could tattoo it on my forearm! Someone give me an aaaaammmmeeennn to this reminder! xo- M

Look on the Bright Side
By Brian Tracy

The most important application of the law of cause and effect in your life is this: thoughts are causes, and conditions are effects. What this means is that your thought is creative. You create your world by the way you think. Nothing in your world has any meaning except for the meaning you give by how you think about it and talk about it. If you don’t care about something, it has no effect on your emotions and actions.

How to be Happy
Many thousands of people have been interviewed over the years to find out what they think about most of the time. Can you guess what the most successful and happy people think about all day long? The answer is simple. Happy healthy people think about what they want, and how to get it, most of the time. When you think and talk about what you want, and how to get it, you feel happier and in greater control of your life.

How to be Unhappy
What do unhappy people think and talk about most of the time? Unfortunately, they think and talk about things they don’t want. They think and talk about their problems and pains, and the people they don’t like. Sometimes, their whole lives revolve around their complaints and criticisms. And the more they think and talk about what they don’t want, the unhappier they become.

The Most Important Quality
Based on many psychological tests, the happiest people seem to have a special quality that enables them to live a better life than average. Can you guess what it is? It is the quality of optimism! The best news about optimism is that it is a learnable quality. You can learn to be a more positive, confident, and optimistic person by thinking the way optimists doβ€”most of the time.

Look for the Good
Optimists seem to have different ways of dealing with the world that set them apart from the average. First, as we mentioned, they keep their minds on what they want, and keep looking for ways to get it. They are clear about their goals and they are confident that they will accomplish them, sooner or later. Second, optimists look for the good in every problem or difficulty. When things go wrong, as they often do, they say, “That’s good!” and then set about finding something positive about the situation.

Seek the Valuable Lesson
The third quality of optimists is that they seek the valuable lesson in every setback or reversal. Rather than getting upset and blaming someone else for what has happened, they take control over their emotions by saying, “What can I learn from this experience?” Fully 95% of everything you do is determined by your habits, good or bad. When you repeatedly look for the good and seek the valuable lesson in every obstacle or disappointment, you very soon develop the habit of thinking like an optimist. As a result, you feel happier, healthier, and more in control of your world.

The Body-Mind Connection
More and more doctors are coming to the conclusion that 80% or more of all diseases and ailments are psychosomatic in origin. This means that “psycho,” the mind, makes “soma,” the body, sick. You do not get sick from what you are eating, but from what is eating you.

Action Exercise
Resolve from now on to see your glass of life half full rather than half empty. Give thanks for your many blessings in life rather than worrying or complaining about the things you do not have. Assume the best of intentions on the part of everyone around you.
