A great reminder to us all

comparison is the thief of all joy

“Comparison is the thief of joy”- Theodore Roosevelt

Like we mentioned earlier, it is “Self Awareness” month, and we think a big part of that is paying attention to what goes on in our thought process throughout the day, and unfortunately for most of us comparison is a big one. Whether it’s comparing physical appearance, smarts, wealth, personalities, activities, the list can go on and on. We don’t want to do it, and we certainly don’t mean to do it, but alas……we do. For Self Awareness month we are inviting you to try to recognize those thoughts when they pop up, take them captive, and chuck them out of your brain and stomp on the thought, realize it’s only  holding your back from joy and self acceptance. Everyday woman tell us that they want to book a photo shoot, but they want to hit the gym first so they can look as hot as all the women on our galleries, and our photo shoots are just not about that. They are about looking like you, and celebrating YOU. When you walk into our studio it’s totally affirming yourself, saying “dammit I love myself, I am grateful for the body I do have and I am going to give myself some serious positive affirmation today!!!!”

iyala-quote-comparing-yourself-to-others

Comparing yourself to others is an act of violence against your authentic self. ~ Iyanla Vanzant

We are all made uniquely beautiful and totally DIFFERENT. We certainly don’t need to look like someone else! We wanted to take a moment to give “Dove” a serious shout out for the “Real Beauty”” campaign. They are saying different is awesome, society’s idea of beauty is jacked, and life is too short not to embrace who you are, and we TOTALLY AGREE!!!!

You can tell they sincerely care about their audience and the message that they are sending!! As opposed to maybe some other companies our there????

Then we’re going to have tons of shooting, talking about boudoir, sharing about your businesses, and one-on-one time with Marissa & Kimberlee. We are really putting a lot of work into these Retreats and we would love to have you join us.

We are still selling spots to BOTH workshops – but hurry because the San Diego Retreat is almost FULL already! We are also getting sign-ups for Paris, which is so exciting – because we LOVE THIS CITY so much!!!

Throwback Thursday. 2008 revisited.

By PersonalNo Comments

Haha! Wow. Who are these crazy girls? Apparently 5 years ago we thought we were way funnier/cooler than we actually are LOL. Thought it would be fun to show off some of our debut videos we put out to the world in 2008. Can’t say they are great, but they sure do make us smile.

I think the main reason whey I felt the urge to post these little videos is because I (K) have been working on editing a FREE WEBINAR that we’re going to be releasing soon. This webinar is more for newer boudoir photographers, and it’s about a half hour of M & I sharing our Top Marketing Tips. And during the webinar, we talk a little bit about how important it was for us to film and share videos when we were building our biz. Our video filming & editing skills have since come a LOOONG way, but I wanted to show these old ones to just say where we came from. It didn’t matter to our clients that the videos we posted were a little lame/silly/quirky and not high quality. 🙂 The main thing is that these videos showed a bit of our personality – who we are – so that they were able to get to know us before they came in for a shoot.

Boudoir Divas Before & Afters

By PersonalNo Comments

As you may have seen, we are SUPER excited about the new look of our studio’s website! We love all of the new features and new sections, and we are excited about how much content & info is on there. We want our clients to feel like they can ‘step into our world’ and spend a lot of time reading, browsing photos, watching videos, and interacting with us as they are starting to plan and get excited for their boudoir shoot.

This morning we wanted to chat for just a minute about the “Before & After” section of our site, and why we chose to include that section. I know a lot of photographers out there are stoked on the idea of putting Before and Afters on their websites, and we agree that it can be very powerful. However, we have always struggled with asking our clients to allow us to post their Before & Afters, because we feel that it could come across wrong. We would never, ever, want our clients to get the impression that their ‘before’ pics are ‘ugly’ – and then afterwards, WE make them beautiful. That is not our intention. As boudoir photographers, we hold SO much power to affect a woman’s confidence and the way she sees herself. What we do and how we interact with her can be powerfully positive, but it can also be damaging to her spirit.

Our team believes that each and every woman is drop-dead gorgeous, JUST as she is. We want to empower women to feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. We truly believe that all women are uniquely beautiful – and we LOVE having the chance to give our clients an experience where they can see themselves in a new light. So the reason why we choose to share Before and Afters on our website is to showcase another side of these ladies’ beauty – their “Diva Bombshell” side! Typically only celebrities and models have a chance to show off that side, and we feel like all women should have the opportunity to be pampered and have a fun photo shoot experience that reveals a new aspect of their beauty.

Another reason why we feel it is important to share before and afters on our site is because we hear from women ALL THE TIME things like: ‘I could never look like those women on your website’… or ‘I could never look that sexy’… and we want to tell them, YES YOU CAN!

WE DO NOT SHOOT MODELS. WE ARE NOT FASHION PHOTOGRAPHERS WHO HIRE PROS. Our clients are EVERYDAY WOMEN of all ages, all shapes and sizes, and from all walks of life.

To prove this point even further, Marissa & myself (Kimberlee) decided that we wanted to be brave and share OUR Before & After photos – so that our clients can see that ANYONE can do this!

So, fellow photographers, what are your thoughts on all of this? Do you like showing before & afters on your website? Would you ever be bold and brave enough to post a before/after of yourself? We’d love to hear from you – leave us a comment below! xoxo, K

Ah, I get chills at the thought.

So we ask, please vote for us!

Boudoir Workshop Review

By Workshops2 Comments

“Hello Ladies! My name is Kaitlyne, I took your workshop I think about 4 years ago now! Anyways I just wanted to take the time to thank you! When I walked in your studio I was so amateur I had no idea what I was getting myself into, I had just learned what boudoir photography actually was. I came in with my canon rebel shooting in full auto… yup pretty embarrassing now! But you fully accepted me and even took the time to teach me how to shoot manually ON TOP of everything else I learned that weekend. Long story short, 4 years later I run a very successful business, one of the most well known in Edmonton, Canada. We (Yup I have an amazing all female staff now) have a gorgeous studio complete with a sales area and salon. So THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for accepting me, teaching me, and answering my silly questions. You never once made me feel unwelcome or dumb. I have created my own brand and style and it all started with you ladies! Thank you 🙂 All the Best, -Kaitlyne Tyner GreenTee Photography

If you want one of those spots, go sign up now! (And, PS, we also have awesome payment plans available to make this doable for you!)

September is Self Awareness Month

By Boudoir Tips, InspirationNo Comments

September is “Self Awareness” month. So all of us here at the studio are encouraging ladies, and ourselves, to gear up for this special month by considering self awareness, which we are loving the description of that as achieving total self acceptance and long-term personal happiness.

Boudoir divas beauty confidence quote

I really enjoyed reading this article that spelled it out a little more clearly as this…
“Often, people are unable to see themselves as others see them, as their reality is different than most (self image, internally and externally). They prefer to focus only on the aspects of their being that make them feel good about themselves. Or contrarily, some prefer to focus only on the negative aspects. The dichotomy reflects an inability to be objectionable with oneself.

The habit of pushing the ‘bad parts’ out of their conscious eases the mental stress of having to deal with those issues, as positive change requires humble effort, so they choose to not accept those negative aspects when they look at themselves in the mirror.

Conversely, some people tend to sway in the opposite direction and focus only on the negativity. They continuously find fault within themselves which becomes a barrier in acknowledging the good qualities they possess, therefore hindering long-term personal happiness.

Denials are barriers in self awareness. Individuals need to accept all the parts of their being, good and bad, to begin a happy journey in life.” – The Examiner
