ABOUT THE RETREAT:
We are THRILLED to announce that we have officially launched the second annual San Diego Boudoir Retreat, which will be held in San Diego in February of 2015! The 2014 Retreat was an absolutely incredible experience for us and our attendees, and we cannot wait to offer this experience again to another group of photographers. (Read a summary of our 2014 Retreat here!)
WHO THIS IS FOR: The Boudoir Retreat is designed for the intermediate boudoir photographer who wants to create an amazing boudoir business, revamp a current business model or marketing plan, be inspired & refreshed, connect with a community of like-minded boudoir biz owners, and enjoy four days + four nights at a beautiful house in San Diego, CA!
SHOOTING: We will be shooting for one full day at our San Diego studio, giving you a chance to work with our models on our sets. Just like with our regular boudoir workshops, each attendee will have short (10-minute) times of working 1-on-1 with at least 2 models. The rest of the shooting portion will be done as a group.
BUSINESS, MARKETING, AND MORE: After our shooting day, we’ll spend the rest of our time back at the Retreat House together as a group. We’ll be going over absolutely anything and everything you ever wanted to know about how we run our business. We will be sharing a ton of info, and we will be available for you all to ask us questions about what it takes to run a successful boudoir biz!
ONE-ON-ONES: You will have 15 minutes with M & K. Marissa will meet with you to discuss your overall goals, biz plan, and pricing. Kimberlee will be meeting with you to brainstorm some marketing strategies, as well as talk about your brand and web presence.
AND MORE SHOOTING: Back at the Retreat House, we will also have another shooting opportunity, so that you can get some adorably-styled, editorial-type boudoir images at the house! You’ll be working in small groups for the shoots at the house.
BE REFRESHED: In addition to all of this learning, we also want to create a relaxed environment, with some intentional time for you to journal, strategize, and plan. We feel like this is such an important part of running a business, and sadly most business owners don’t take the time to slow down and really reflect on their business. So we will be giving each retreat attendee their own “Choose Your Own Adventure” Workbook – filled with assignments, though-provoking questions, and space to jot down dreams and ideas.
PRE-RETREAT HANG-OUT: Before the retreat, we will be scheduling one Google “Hangout” so that you can all join in and ask any questions about the upcoming retreat.
PRE-RETREAT QUESTIONNAIRE: We want to connect with you, get to know you a little bit, and see where you’re coming from. So before you even get here, we’ll be asking you to fill out a questionnaire so that we can get to know you and learn a little about your business.
HEADSHOTS: Your online presence is incredibly important, and if you’ve ever been to a past workshop or speaking program with us, you’ll know how important we thing it is to put yourself out there. So, just for fun, we’ll be shooting YOU for a quick headshot session at some point during the retreat!
PRIZES & GOODIES: You know we’ll spoil you with some goodies! We have partnered with some amazing sponsors and vendors to give you a swoon-worth swag bag of goodies and discount codes, good toward some of our favorite products!
A BOUDOIR COMMUNITY: In order to create the type of close-knit community that we would desire for you all, we are going to be renting a house for everyone to stay at. Think junior-high-camp-meets-awesome-sleepover. This will give you all a chance to really to get know each other, and your stay at the house included in the cost of the retreat! (See the ‘HOUSE’ tab for more info).
POST-RETREAT CONSULTATION: That’s right – it doesn’t end after we say goodbye at the Retreat! We’ll also be scheduling a 30-minute consultation (either Skype or over the phone) AFTER the retreat, so that you can chat with one of us (K or M) and follow-up with us after this week.
PAYMENT PLANS: Lastly, we wanted this to be DOABLE for you! We realize that this is an investment… and in order to make it a little easier on you, we’ve created two options for payment plans (see the “INVESTMENT” tab for more details).

*PLEASE NOTE: THIS WORKSHOP IS NOT OPEN TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS.
We will be renting a very comfortable home to fit our entire group! The home will be a luxury home close to one of San Diego’s more affluent and beautiful beaches. This is a little bit slumber-party style, with roommate situations – but we will also have a few upgrade options available for those who would like to have your own room. Select rooms will also allow for you to bring your spouse if you wish, for an additional charge (these spots are limited – please email us if you are thinking of bringing a spouse with you and we can chat about the details and availability).
UPGRADES: *PLEASE NOTE: Upgrades to rooms will be based on availability. We will give priority on your room upgrades based on who books first. You will be guaranteed a spot on an air mattress on the floor (air mattress and bedding provided by the Divas). You can get a guaranteed room upgrade by paying the additional fees – or, if available, you may be upgraded to a queen bed at no charge (but this will be determined when you arrive for the Retreat).
EXACT LOCATION: We will be sending the exact location (and address) to all of our attendees a few months before the Boudoir Retreat.
MALES: Guy attendees are welcome to sign up for this Retreat, however, if you will be attending as a single status we will ask you to upgrade your own room, unless another male comes to be roomies with you (or you room with your spouse).
LIABILITY: Please note – this is a group venture, meaning we are coming together as like-minded professionals to rent a home. The Boudoir Divas Inc will not be held liable for any harm, vandalism, theft or shenanigans that happen in the home. This will be considered a group choosing to vacation together.

DAY 1: MONDAY Feb 16 | CHECK-IN & GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER
4:30pm – Check in to the Retreat House! You will be greeted by the Diva team & shown to your room where you can unpack and freshen up before dinner.
6pm- Dinner as a group, at the Retreat House.
7-8pm- Introductions & a time where we all get to know each other. Marissa & Kimberlee will also share about their background with boudoir, and talk about how they’ve created the “Supermodel Experience.”
DAY 2: TUESDAY Feb 17 | AT THE BOUDOIR DIVAS STUDIO
BREAKFAST ON YOUR OWN – at the Retreat House (basic breakfast items will be available for you at the house)
9:00am – Taxi or shuttle will be available to drive you to the studio.
9:30am – Official start of the workshop Day 2 – at the Boudoir Divas studio.
9:45am – Studio tour, Overview of shooting & using light to flatter a woman. Posing all body types and using poses and angles for variety. Shooting style and interacting with your client.
1:00pm- Divas demo lighting & posing with a model
3:00-5:30pm- One on one shoots with a model, and group shooting (in a group of 8 people). Rotate through different “looks” to get variety.
6:00pm- Day is over, free time for the rest of the evening (dinner is on your own tonight)
DAY 3: WEDNESDAY Feb 18 | AT THE RETREAT HOUSE
BREAKFAST ON YOUR OWN – at the Retreat House (basic breakfast items will be available for you at the house)
9:00am – Start of day 3! Overall business strategy, marketing, sales & booking the client, Best selling products & why, Pricing for a profit and strategy, Selling in your viewing.
2:00-4:30 – Shooting models at the house in small groups. At some point during the shooting at the house, you will also be pulled out one at a time for a quick headshot session with Marissa or Kimee – new pics for your business and online presence!
5:00pm- Dinner together at the house
DAY 4: THURSDAY Feb 19 | AT THE RETREAT HOUSE
BREAKFAST ON YOUR OWN – at the Retreat House (basic breakfast items will be available for you at the house)
Free morning to do what you’d like - we recommend working in your workbook while lounging in the sunshine at the beach… or downloading your images from the shoots… or walking on the beach… OR sitting in the hot tub. At some point this morning, you will also be assigned a 1-on-1 session (15 minutes) with Marissa for overall business strategy, and another 1-on-1 with Kimberlee (15 min) for marketing strategy & online presence.
12:00pm – Lunch
1:00-3:00 – Post processing and effective workflow & creating the product.
4:00pm until sunset – Styled beach shoot
Dinner on your own tonight!
DAY 5: FRIDAY Feb 20 | GOODBYE BREAKFAST
10:00am- Goodbye breakfast together. After breakfast, you will have free time at villa. Feel free to relax and dream more before you have to pack up!

The San Diego studio is 20 miles away from the San Diego international airport. The beach house will be a similar distance – approximately 20 miles away.

CAR RENTALS & CARPOOLING: During past workshops, some workshop attendees like to connect with each other before the workshop, and make arrangements to carpool to/from the workshop together or share a car rental. Once you have registered for the Retreat, you will be invited to our private Boudoir Divas Facebook page… that way, you can connect with other attendees before the Retreat begins.
The 4 day boudoir retreat is $2900. Accommodations & most meals are included in this price (room upgrades available for an additional charge).

NON-REFUNDABLE: Spots are limited and this is a big project for us to put on, so will give NO exceptions for refunds for this retreat – sorry! Thanks for understanding. Trip insurance is incredibly important, and we recommend that you purchase insurance that will cover your workshop fee should you have an emergency and have to cancel. We apologize, but as mentioned this is a large project to take on, and for that reason we have to be strict with this policy.
CANCELLATIONS: We understand that things come up that are out of your control. ALL PAYMENTS MADE are NOT REFUNDABLE, under any conditions. If you must cancel the retreat, please send us notification in writing 2 weeks prior to your next scheduled payment date so that we can cancel your automatic payments.
6 WEEKS PRIOR: If you cancel 6 weeks prior to the Retreat start date, we will be able to apply any money you have paid toward a photo shoot at our San Diego studio at another date. (Must be used within one calendar year. Not transferable to another studio location besides San Diego).
LESS THAN 6 WEEKS PRIOR: If you need to cancel within/less than 6 weeks prior to the Retreat start date, we will not be able to refund or transfer any of your Boudoir Retreat payments. No exceptions – sorry!
MANDATORY TRIP INSURANCE: We ask that you purchase trip/travel insurance immediately. There are many reputable companies that offer trip insurance. To give you an example, we have called TRAVEL GUARD, www.travelguard.com, 1.800.826.1300 – and their Basic Coverage with upgraded medical to cover $20,000 is $120 for a 35 year old woman traveling from Florida. Should you have an emergency where you will need to cancel and not attend the Retreat (due to a serious sickness, injury, death in the immediate family, or an act of God – ie, a hurricane or volcano), they will cover your workshop and travel expenses. (Please contact a travel insurance company for details and to confirm that they will be able to cover you for cancellations).

Q: How many photographers will you allow at this Boudoir Retreat?
There is a maximum of 14 photographers for this Retreat.
Q: What level is this course intended for?
A: This is a workshop that was designed specifically for INTERMEDIATE boudoir photographers. We will not be going over any ‘basics’ of photography, so we ask that you already have a solid knowledge of shooting in manual mode, and that you know your camera equipment well.
Q: Is there a discount for 2 photographers coming from the same studio?
A: Due to the limited availability for this Retreat, we cannot give discounts for multiple people from the same studio. The full price will apply ($2900 each). However – we WILL give you your own room to share (no other roommates) – at no extra charge ($600 value).
Q: Can I use the images I take at the workshop on my website?
A: Absolutely; that’s the whole point of the shooting day! We want you to leave with a solid portfolio of images that you can use to promote your boudoir business in your city! The Boudoir Divas Inc will retain the model release, however, we will give you permission to use the images on your website, blog, and for studio samples.
Q: Where is the workshop held?
A: At The Boudoir Divas’ studio in San Diego – AND – at the Boudoir Retreat House (where you will be staying). You will receive the addresses and directions once you have officially registered for the Retreat. The studio is located approximately 20 minutes north of the San Diego International Airport.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: The retainer fee is non-refundable. We understand that things come up that are out of your control. ALL RETREAT PAYMENTS ARE NOT REFUNDABLE, under any conditions. No exceptions – sorry! Please see the “Investment” tab for more details.
Q: What should I bring to the workshop?
A: We ask that you bring an SLR camera with a lens that can open to a 2.8 aperture (we recommend a 24-70mm 2.8, or a 50mm 1.2/1.4 lens), downloader and as many memory cards as you can get your hands on. We also recommend that you bring a laptop with storage to download. Other than that, just come with an open mind and a willingness to have fun, learn, and meet some other wonderful people!
Q: Why did you start the Boudoir Retreats, instead of your shorter workshops?
A: We have been teaching boudoir workshops for more than six years, and we have LOVED each and every one. But in 2014 we decided we wanted to change things up a bit. Although we do still love leading our shorter workshops, we felt that we really didn’t get to spend the in depth hands-on time and planning with our photogs that we hoped for. We want to have more time to be available for questions – more time to chat with everyone – and more time for our attendees to hang out with each other, to create a really solid community of like-minded boudoir photographers. So after months of planning and dreaming about what we would want this to look like, in 2013 we launched the concept for our “Boudoir Retreat”! The first Retreat took place in 2014, and it was so much fun. We can’t wait for future Retreats!!
Well, as you know, this is going to be our FIRST-EVER Boudoir Retreat! But we have taught over TWENTY boudoir workshops over the last five and a half years.
